• Aaron Judge and Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit the fifth set of back-to-back homers in Yankees World Series history in the first inning of Game 5. They joined 1977 Game 5 Thurman Munson and Reggie Jackson, 1964 Game 6 Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, 1932 Game 3 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and 1928 Game 4 Ruth and Gehrig. The Yankees are the first team in World Series history to hit multiple home runs in the first inning of a game when facing elimination. With the Dodgers in Game 2, this was the first time there were multiple sets of back-to-back home runs in a single World Series.

Game 4 world series
The Yankees still have plenty of work to do. Aaron Judge’s eighth-inning RBI single was a good sign. Volpe’s tremendous all-around performance — he went 2-for-3, drove in four runs, scored three runs and was very good on defense — could portend the sort of lineup depth the Yankees need. Austin Wells also went 2-for-3 and hit a home run. The Dodgers didn’t use any of their leverage relievers, so the Yankees must contend with that. • This was The Anthony Volpe Game. After being visibly upset with himself for not scoring on Austin Wells’ double in the second, he got a chance at redemption in the third — as the game so often provides. He delivered the ninth World Series grand slam in Yankees history — seven more than any other team and the sixth MLB-wide this postseason — setting a record for a single playoffs.
Luis Gil stepped in earlier this season when Gerrit Cole started the season on the IL and pitched as well as anyone in the American League. He finished the season with a 15-7 record with a 3.50 ERA and a WHIP of 1.193. Most concerningly though for the Yankees is that he led the AL with 77 walks, which may be problematic for a patient Dodgers lineup.
It’s the advantage of having a 3-0 Series lead, the type no team has ever given up in the World Series. But it came at a cost. The Dodgers continued to chip away at their deficit, making this a two-run game going into the final three innings. But Brent Honeywell, probably the last reliever on their depth chart, checked in, gave up five runs in the eighth and turned this into a blowout. — Jorge Castillo
