The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking for their first full-season championship in more than three decades Tuesday night as the New York Yankees look to avoid a World Series sweep and be the first team since 2004 to comeback from a 3-0 deficit in a championship round.
To get on the board in the series, the Yankees will need much more than Schmidt. Aaron Judge, on the heels one of the best regular seasons of all-time, continues to struggle in the postseason. He’s 1-for-9 in the World Series with six strikeouts.
Game 1 world series
• Freeman’s grand slam was the third walk-off home run while trailing in World Series history. The other two are homers that fans would recognize by name alone: Joe Carter’s, in 1993 Game 6 for the Blue Jays against the Phillies, and Kirk Gibson’s, in 1988 Game 1 for the Dodgers against the A’s.
History pulsates in the postseason, all the more when iconic clubs clash. And Valenzuela’s death earlier this week only added to the emotional heft of what is taking place here. Prior to the first pitch, the Dodgers had two of their World Series MVPs — Steve Yeager (1981) and Orel Hershiser (1988) — honor Valenzuela’s memory by placing a ball on the mound, below where his No. 34 had been painted.

And in the end, the Dodgers came out with a magical opening act in which Freeman gave off those Gibby goosebumps — almost to the minute (Gibson’s homer had landed at 8:38 p.m. local time, Freeman’s cleared the wall at 8:39).
Tommy Edman led off the bottom of the sixth with a double, but the top of the order couldn’t bring him home. Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts grounded out and Freddie Freeman flew out to end the inning.
World war game 3
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza escalated dramatically in October 2023 after a surprise attack by Hamas resulted in Israel launching a full-scale military operation. In November 2024, Arab and Muslim nations convened in Riyadh to demand an immediate ceasefire and emphasize the importance of a two-state solution. Despite these efforts, Israel’s actions continue to draw international scrutiny, with reports of humanitarian aid blockages exacerbating the crisis in Gaza.
The U.S. is central due to its superpower status and global military reach. Likely allies include NATO members, especially those in Europe close to Russia, and Asia-Pacific partners like Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines. These alliances are shaped by shared strategic interests and mutual defense commitments, particularly in response to threats from Russia and China.
Post-WWII Economic RecoveryThe recovery from World War II was slow and uneven, with many countries experiencing prolonged economic hardship, high debt, and social unrest. While Western Europe benefited from the Marshall Plan, other regions, particularly within the Soviet bloc, struggled to recover.
